Description

This report is both a science update to the 1999 Baylands Ecosystem Habitat Goals and a strategic regional adaptation plan. It is a nonregulatory, voluntary effort to point the Bay Area toward a more resilient future, with strategies that were developed over several years by several hundred experts and practitioners in the region. Part 1 of this report synthesizes the latest science, particularly advances in the understanding of climate change and sediment supply, and incorporates projected changes through 2100. Part 2 of this report covers the actions that should be used bay wide to achieve healthy and resilient baylands. This part includes big picture strategies such as restore watershed connections, design complexity and connectivity, and increase stakeholder coordination, as well as regional actions like develop and implement a comprehensive regional sediment-management plan. Finally, the report also includes more detailed subregional visions and segment specific actions.
