Description

This research from the Woods Institute examines the importance of regional coordination in planning shoreline adaptation actions in coastal regions. Coastal cities will increasingly rely on protections such as levees and seawalls to mitigate flooding, but these strategies can increase inundation along other shorelines within the same estuary or bay. The brief contends that coordinated planning efforts which account for the regional impacts of local shoreline actions could provide opportunities to reduce shared risk of sea-level rise in coastal regions. This research is specifically targeted at planners and policymakers to inform their actions.
