Description

This website explains the current demonstration horizontal levee project, which was implemented at the Oro Loma Sanitary District. A horizontal levee, which uses vegetation on a slope to break waves thus reducing the design height of a traditional levee, in theory could be a regional solution to the problems of: 1) flood risk from sea rise, 2) water quality concerns in the Bay, 3) providing key habitat on the Bay’s edge and 4) finding an affordable solution. This demonstration project is designed to gather data and test the efficacy of this sea level rise strategy. This website provides access to videos and reports which explain the project and provide further details.
