Description

This report is a product of San Francisco’s interagency committee called the Sea Level Rise (SLR) Coordinating Committee. The report, which builds on a number of previous analyses, highlights the risk to both public and private assets from sea level rise and associated flooding. It also looks closely at the complex regulatory environment that governs coastal planning and development activities. The report works to establish an overarching vision, goals, and a set of guiding principles for sea level rise planning. The report concludes with priority near-term actions that the San Francisco Planning Department and the San Francisco Public Works Department are primarily responsible for implementing. These actions include the completion of citywide vulnerability and risk assessments, the building of sea level rise awareness, a review of policy and financing tools, and the writing of a comprehensive citywide sea level rise adaptation plan.
