This case study describes how the City of Santa Cruz has worked to foster community climate resilience to sea level rise and other coastal hazards through a focus on plan alignment, regional planning and collaboration, equitable community engagement, and successful project implementation. In addition, this case study highlights non-traditional planning methods utilized by the City to help create more equitable, place-based, and community informed adaptation strategies, such as the City’s novel social vulnerability assessment and commitment to embedding an adaptation pathways approach into local plans. This case study is part of a suite of Climate Resilience Plan Alignment resources developed by the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program at the Governor's Office of Planning and Research.
